This study explores the impact of online assessments on students’ academic performance and learning outcomes at the University of Technology in South Africa. The research problem addresses the effectiveness and challenges of digital assessment platforms in higher education (HE), particularly their influence on student engagement, feedback quality, and academic integrity. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving semi-structured interviews with ten undergraduate and postgraduate students from diverse academic backgrounds. The findings reveal that while online assessments provide flexibility and immediate feedback, they also pose challenges related to technical issues, feedback delays, and concerns about long-term knowledge retention. The study highlights the necessity of aligning assessment strategies with constructivist learning principles to enhance critical thinking and student-centered learning. Implications for theory include strengthening the application of constructivist learning in digital environments, while practical recommendations focus on improving assessment design, institutional support, and feedback mechanisms. Policy adjustments should consider inclusive and equitable access to online assessments. Future research should further investigate the long-term impact of digital assessments on professional readiness. This study contributes to ongoing discussions on online education by offering a nuanced understanding of digital assessment challenges and opportunities in higher education.
The efficiencies and performance of gas turbine cycles are highly dependent on parameters such as the turbine inlet temperature (TIT), compressor inlet temperature (T1), and pressure ratio (Rc). This study analyzed the effects of these parameters on the energy efficiency, exergy efficiency, and specific fuel consumption (SFC) of a simple gas turbine cycle. The analysis found that increasing the TIT leads to higher efficiencies and lower SFC, while increasing the To or Rc results in lower efficiencies and higher SFC. For a TIT of 1400 ℃, T1 of 20 ℃, and Rc of 8, the energy and exergy efficiencies were 32.75% and 30.9%, respectively, with an SFC of 187.9 g/kWh. However, for a TIT of 900 ℃, T1 of 30 ℃, and Rc of 30, the energy and exergy efficiencies dropped to 13.18% and 12.44%, respectively, while the SFC increased to 570.3 g/kWh. The results show that there are optimal combinations of TIT, To, and Rc that maximize performance for a given application. Designers must consider trade-offs between efficiency, emissions, cost, and other factors to optimize gas turbine cycles. Overall, this study provides data and insights to improve the design and operation of simple gas turbine cycles.
The sense of belonging in any organization is vital to generate a work motivation with the objective of a good organizational performance, because of this, companies usually take this point into account, ensuring that this leads to greater performance. For this reason, the objective of this article is to determine the relationship between the sense of belonging and the work motivation in the workers of a small Peruvian research company. For this purpose, a quantitative methodology was used, with a cross-sectional descriptive design. The instrument used was a survey consisting of 10 items, which were interpreted using the Likert scale. The survey was conducted and delivered to 24 workers, who were selected by non-probabilistic convenience sampling. After verifying the validity of the instrument and the study variables by means of Cronbach's Alpha statistic, we proceeded to determine the existence of correlation between the variables, which, using Spearman's Rho coefficient, obtained a 70.2% which demonstrates a moderate positive correlation, therefore it indicates that employees feel highly motivated as they feel an indispensable part of the company, therefore they feel job satisfaction by being part of the organization.
This research explores the impact of employee green behavior on green transformational leadership (GTL) and green human resource management (GHRM), and their subsequent effects on sustainable performance within organizations. Utilizing a sample of 482 environmental quality promotion departments across Thailand, the study employs stratified random sampling to ensure representative data collection. Analysis was conducted using SPSS software, applying Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression to test the hypothesized relationships between the variables. The findings reveal a positive and significant influence of employee green behavior on both GTL and GHRM. Additionally, both GTL and GHRM are found to positively correlate with sustainable performance, indicating that enhanced leadership and management practices in the environmental domain can lead to better sustainability outcomes. This research utilizes the Ability-Motivation-Opportunity (AMO) theory as its theoretical framework, illustrating how organizations can leverage strategic HRM practices to promote environmental consciousness and action among employees, thereby enhancing their long-term sustainability success. Implications of this study underscore the importance of integrating green practices into leadership and HRM strategies, advocating for targeted training programs and energy conservation measures to boost environmental awareness and performance in the workplace. This contributes to the literature on sustainable performance by providing empirical evidence of the pathways through which green HRM and transformational leadership foster a sustainable organizational environment.
Enhancing the emphasis on incorporating sustainable practices reinforces a linear transition towards a circular economy by organizations. Nevertheless, although studies on circular economy demonstrate an increasing trend, the drivers that support circular economy practices towards sustainable business performance in the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise (SME) sector, especially in developing nations, demand exploration. Accordingly, the study examines circular economy drivers, i.e., green human resource management, in establishing sustainability performance and environmental dynamism as moderating variables. The study engaged 207 SMEs and 621 respondents who were analyzed utilizing structural equation modeling. The analysis indicated that sustainable business performance was affected by green human resource management and a circular economy. Subsequently, the circular economy mediated the linkage between green human resources management and sustainable business performance. The environmental dynamism moderated the linkage between green human resources management and the circular economy.
Workplace bullying (WB) and workplace incivility (WI) appear to be the most alarming events with a potentially threat to the entire workforce and organization. Considering their implications, this research study is examining the effect of WB and WI on employee performance (EP) in the presence of psychological well-being (PW) among both relationships. Sample of the female employees (Nurses) working in the health care units and hospitals of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K), Pakistan was taken to collect the data. Data were collected from female nurses and their supervisors working in the public sector hospitals of AJ&K, Pakistan. The current study uses AMOS 21.0 for empirical analysis to estimate the “Structural Equation Model (SEM)”. The results of SEM show that WB and WI negatively influence nurses’ performance in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s health sectors. Moreover, PW mediates the association between WB and EP. Similarly, the effects of WI decrease in the presence of PW. The current study provides theoretical and practical implications for Pakistan’s health sector regulators and other stakeholders. It also sheds highlight on the importance of a stress-free environment for health sector employees and postulates that employee productivity may be enhanced after eliminating bullying and incivility at the workplace. Further, the study guides managers to create stress-free environments and policies to enhance employee’s productivity.
