Over the past decade, Ontario has seen a renewal in efforts to stimulate economic growth by investing in infrastructures. In this paper, we analyze the impact of public infrastructure investment on economic performance in this province. We use a multivariate dynamic time series methodological approach, based on the use of vector autoregressive models to estimate the elasticities and marginal products of six different types of public infrastructure assets on private investment, employment and output. We find that all types of public investment crowd in private investment while investment in highways, roads, and bridges crowds out employment. We also find that all types of public investment, with the exception of highways, roads and bridges, have a positive effect on output. The relatively large range of results estimated for the impact of each of the different public infrastructure types suggests that a targeted approach to the design of infrastructure investment policy is required. Infrastructure investment in transit systems and health facilities display the highest returns for output and the largest effects on employment and labor productivity. In terms of the nature of the empirical results presented here it would be important to highlight the fact that investments in health infrastructures as well as investments in education infrastructures are of great relevance. This is a pattern consistent with the mounting international evidence on the importance of human capital for long term economic performance.
This study examined the correlations between highly entangled variables such as leadership, work environment, effective communication, reward fairness, and physical facilities for faculty members. The data was gathered from faculty members of educational institutions in Pakistan using a survey questionnaire, and the sampling method was purposive sampling. For this study, data was obtained from a varied group of education professionals from several places in Pakistan, each with a distinct degree of education and experience. This study demonstrates how independent factors affect faculty performance and can have a further impact on organizational productivity. The findings indicated that good organizational behavior had a considerable favorable influence on faculty performance. The paper reviews significant literature on the proposed factors and makes recommendations for further research.
Project success requires team commitment, which is a product of an encouraging culture of cooperation and teamwork among project team members. The research work aims to ascertain which components of team commitment affect the performance of construction projects in Nigeria. The research adopted a quantitative design where questionnaires were used for data collection. Out of 1233 questionnaires distributed, 975 were received with valid responses and used for data analysis. Data were analysed descriptively using percentage, mean score, and relative agreement index. The study showed the factors of team commitment having an effect on project performance, as rated by the respondents, to be: Normative component: “Project team members owe a great deal to this organisation”; “Members of the project team do not feel it is right to quit the project before completion”; “This organisation has a great deal of personal meaning for project team members”. Affective component: “This organisation deserves the loyalty of project team members”; “The project team considers the team’s problems as their own. Then, “One of the few negative consequences of leaving this organisation will be the scarcity of available alternatives” is for continuance. In conclusion, the emotional attachment of the team members and sense of obligation to the project team and construction organisation are the driving forces behind pushing for the successful outcome of projects within the Nigerian construction industry.
Lighting conditions in learning spaces can affect students’ emotions and influence their performance. This research seeks to verify the influence of classroom lighting on students’ academic performance under different conditions and measurement forms. The research method is based on the systematic review of research articles establishing case analyses characterizing lighting intensity and color temperature to determine ranges favorable to a higher level of attention and long-term memory. Also, this study shows relevant aspects of the cases representative of a sustainable solution and proposes a research model. The study found light intensity values between 350 and 1000 lux and color temperatures between 4000 and 5250 Kelvin that favor attention. Long-term memory reached the highest levels of measurement by analyzing different parameters sensitive to lighting conditions and questionnaires. In conclusion, it was demonstrated that an adequate light intensity and color temperature based on the greatest possible amount of natural light complemented with Light Emitting Diode (LED) light generates optimal lighting for the classroom, achieving energy efficiency in a sustainable solution and promoting student well-being and performance.
The intermittent flow cold storage heat exchanger is one of the most important components of the pulse tube expansion refrigerator based on the reverse Brayton cycle. In the experimental system, the volume and heat transfer of the helical tube play a decisive role in the stable operation of the whole experimental system. However, there are few studies on heat transfer in a helical tube under helium working medium and intermittent flow conditions. In this paper, a process and method for calculating the volume of a helical tube are proposed based on the gas vessel dynamics model. Subsequently, a three-dimensional simulation model of the helical tube was established to analyze the heat transfer process of cryogenic helium within the tube. The simulations revealed that the temperature of helium in the tube decreases to the wall temperature and does not change when the helical angle exceeds 720°. Moreover, within the mass flow rate range of 1.6 g/s to 3.2 g/s, an increase in the mass flow rate was found to enhance the heat transfer performance of the helical tube. This study provides a reference for the selection and application of a helical tube under intermittent flow conditions and also contributes to the experimental research of inter-wall heat exchanger and pulse tube expansion refrigerators.
