Species of the Moraceae family are of great economic, medicinal and ecological importance in Amazonia. However, there are few studies on their diversity and population dynamics in residual forests. The objective was to determine the composition, structure and ecological importance of Moraceae in a residual forest. The applied method was descriptive and consisted of establishing 16 plots of 20 m × 50 m (0.10 ha), in a residual forest of the Alexánder von Humboldt substation of the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation-INIA, Pucallpa, department of Ucayali, where individuals of arboreal or hemi-epiphytic habit, with DBH ≥ 2.50 cm, were evaluated. The floristic composition was represented by 33 species, distributed in 12 genera; five species not recorded for Ucayali were found. Structurally, the family was represented by 138 individuals/ha with a horizontal distribution similar to an irregular inverted “J”. However, there were different horizontal structures among species. It was determined that 85% of the species were in diameter class I (2.50 to 9.99 cm), being the most abundant Pseudolmedia laevis (Ruiz & Pav.) J.F. Macbr. (41.88 individuals/ha); and the most dominant were Brosimum utile (Kunth) Oken (1.71 m2∕ha) and Brosimum alicastrum subsp. bolivarense (Pittier) C.C.Berg (0.90 m2/ha). Likewise, P. laevis and B. utile were the most ecologically important. The information from the present research will allow the establishment of a baseline, which can be used to propose the management of Moraceae in residual forests in the same study area.
Cyclically, the debate on Keynes’ economic policies reemerge. The economic impact of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has relaunched the discussion about the importance of Keynesian policies, the multipliers effects, and their impact on stimulating economies. This paper aims to analyze the importance and relevance of the Keynesian multiplier before the pandemic, in a period without experiencing exceptional aggregate shocks. The main focus of the research is to examine the shortcomings of the public investment multiplier, which plays a central role in Keynesian theory. Despite the undeniable relevance of the concept, the issue is to understand the extent to which the multiplier is still relevant in specific contexts. The research presents empirical evidence which suggests that the effects of public investment depend on structural characteristics of economies specifically trade liberalization, the dimension of internal markets, the question of countries having the freedom to issue their currency, and the issue of currencies being accepted as an international reserve. A sample of 35 OECD countries was used for the period 2010–2018. The Keynesian public investment multiplier was calculated for several countries and the obtained values were related to various correlations carried out to assess the relationship between public investment, national income, and specific characteristics of the economies to which the multipliers are sensitive. The results obtained contrast in terms of short-term and long-term impacts so, is at least dubious, that one can rely on Keynesian public policies to boost economies at least in the absence of substantial shocks to aggregate demand.
Nowadays, international exchanges are becoming more and more frequent in the world. As a global language, English can establish a communication bridge between different countries and nationalities, and its importance is obvious. Since 2001, China has gradually added English education to the curriculum plan of primary schools in various regions. Later, with the deepening of the industry’s understanding of English teaching, the education reform has also followed up. It can be said that the level of educators and educates is rising spirally. However, there are still many restrictive factors in the current situation of primary school students’ learning English, among which the more prominent factors are the strength of English teachers and the evaluation mechanism for students’ learning achievements.
[Objective] To understand the relationship between species diversity and tree growth in natural secondary forests in Northeast China, to determine the reasonable size of species diversity, and to carry out appropriate nurturing harvesting and artificial replanting, so as to provide a scientific and theoretical basis for secondary forest management and management. [Methods] A total of 123 sample plots were set up in the Xiaoxinganling (XXAL), Zhangguangcailing (ZGCL), Laojialing (LYL), Changbai Mountain (CBS), Hadaling (HDL) and Longgang Mountain (LGS) areas in Northeast China, they were used to investigate the species composition, importance value, diversity and tree growth in each area. [Results] A total of 48 species belonging to 17 families and 31 genera were investigated in all the sample plots, among which the sample plots in Longgang Mountain contained the largest number of families, genera and species, followed by Hada Ling, Changbai Mountain, Laoyaling, Zhangguangcai Mountain and Xiaoxinganling. The α-diversity index of species in the sample sites was the largest in Changbai Mountain and the smallest in Xiaoxinganling, and the difference between them was significant (P < 0.05), while the richness index was the largest in Longgang Mountain and the smallest in Xiaoxinganling. The difference between them was significant (P < 0.05), while the greater the difference in latitude between the regions, the more obvious the difference in β-diversity index of species in the sample sites, and the fewer species shared between the two regions. The higher the rate of community succession, the higher the average diameter at breast height and the average tree height in each region were CBS > LYL > LGS > ZGCL > HDL > XXAL. The largest breast tree species in each region was Mongolian oak in Changbai Mountain with a diameter at breast height of 64.8 cm, and the smallest breast tree species in each region was Tyrannus sylvestris in Longgang Mountain with a diameter at breast height of 4.0 cm. The highest tree species in each region was Liriodendron sylvestris in Longgang Mountain with a height of 28.9 m, and the smallest species is yellow pineapple with a height of 1.3 m in Longgang Mountain. [Conclusion] Within a certain range, species diversity has a facilitating effect on the average diameter at breast height and average tree height of species within a stand. Therefore, during the management of secondary forests, appropriate nurturing harvesting and artificial replanting should be adopted to ensure reasonable species diversity in the stands and provide optimal space for the growth of natural secondary forests.
Climate change has affected the coasts of the world due to numerous factors, including the change in the intensity and frequencies of the storms and the increase in the mean sea level, among others. Argentina has extensive coastal areas, and research and monitoring tasks are expensive and require a significant number of personnel to cover large geographical areas. Given this, citizen science has become a tool to increase scientific research's spatial and temporal extension. Therefore, the paper aims to analyze the methodology and development of the citizen science project in Villa Gesell and its lessons for applying them in future coastal environmental monitoring projects. The methodology was based on an experience of the project co-created between activists and researchers. This project included four phases for social and physical aspects: training for the citizens, theoretic and practical aspects of coastal dynamics, and how to measure its geomorphological and oceanographic variations; data collection: the activists who received the training performed the measurements to monitor the beach; data analysis by scientists; and dissemination of results; the report data were disseminated by citizens in their community. The analysis of case studies in citizen science projects generates a fundamental learning arena to apply in future projects. Among the positive aspects were the phases established for their development and the methodology used to collect beach monitoring data.
