Rural tourism, which offers authentic cultural and nature-based experiences, is increasingly recognized as a vital tool for sustainable development. Ethiopia, with its rich rural landscapes and cultural heritage, holds immense potential for rural tourism, but the sector remains underdeveloped. This study assesses the facilitating conditions and challenges of rural tourism in Ethiopia using a mixed-methods approach. Results indicate that Ethiopia’s economic growth, improved rural infrastructure, large rural population, higher ethnic and religious diversity index, and 11 UNESCO World Heritage Sites provide strong foundations for rural tourism. However, significant challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited marketing, restricted access to financing, ethnic conflicts, environmental degradation, and insufficient stakeholder cooperation hinder its growth. To address these barriers, the study proposes a model encompassing strategic investments in infrastructure, enhancing marketing and promotion, access to finance initiatives, conflict resolution strategies, sustainable tourism practices, enhancing stakeholder coordination, and supportive policy frameworks. By employing these strategies, Ethiopia can harness the full potential of its rural tourism sector, contributing to economic development and community well-being while promoting cultural preservation and environmental sustainability. Also, the proposed model is highly applicable to other developing economies that share similar contexts. Besides, given the importance of the seven fundamental pillars of the model, it remains relevant across tourism types like coastal destinations.
This study is about the influence of ethical leadership in both employees wellbeing and employee performance in Egypt’s tourism industry. Besides, it examines the indirect effect of ethical leadership on performance through its influence on the well-being of employees. The research was based on a quantitative research method and the surveys were self-administered, distributed and collected from a random sample of the employees of the Tourism companies. Analysis of 515 valid responses using structural equation modeling (SEM) unveiled several key findings: Ethical leadership is the main reason why both employee well-being and performance are significantly increased, and the fact that employee well-being is also the main reason for the improvement of performance. In addition, the employee well-being plays the role of the bridge between the ethical leadership and the performance. These insights are of great help for the decision-makers in the crafting of the effective leadership strategies that will lead to the creation of the thriving and high-performed work environments in Egyptian tourism sector.
The fear of ghosts is a common thing that can be managed as a social condition that turns out to have an impact on the continuity of forest maintenance. Applying a qualitative approach supported by in-depth interview methods, observation, and literature study. This research does not attempt to prove the existence of ghosts or discuss the psychological conditions of people who fear ghosts. The main finding of this research is the reality of the reproduction of stories and experiences of fear of ghosts, as well as the implementation of traditions or rituals related to community activities in the forest. Stories of fear of ghosts with various forms and versions of naming not only enrich the cultural life of the community but also encourage social conditioning in the form of togetherness to agree on the fear of ghosts as a means of creating a social system in order to carry out activities in the forest. The social system is identified in the form of pamali traditions or things that should not be done in the forest, balian rituals to eliminate or treat ghost disturbances, and besoyong rituals to utilize forest products, which then have an impact on the awareness to respect the continuity of these rituals and tradition. So, even though the fear of ghosts can be overcome psychologically and disappear quickly, the reality of respect for the social system related to the forest can still survive. In addition, ghost stories’ reproduction continues to be rolled out and adapted to the times. In turn, ghosts and forest rituals continue to be conditioned into a social system that has implications for forest conservation.
The small and medium tourism enterprises sector has experienced a decline in Indonesia’s economic conditions in recent years. This research aims to advise stakeholders regarding factors that must be considered and included in future policy formulation. The research methodology is a mixed method supported by the N-Vivo computer program, interview studies, and FGD. This research focuses on four tourism provinces in Indonesia. The research results using thematic analysis identified 133 codes, 19 categories, nine core themes, and one impact theme. This research’s novelty highlights that government policy’s effects on tourism SME marketing are not significant due to weak support. Apart from that, partnerships and collaboration between the central regional government and tourism SMEs are the main factors determining their development at the regional level. This research concludes that government intervention and support in encouraging the growth and sustainability of tourism SMEs are necessary. The Government must promote collaboration between tourism SMEs because increasing the number of tourists is crucial, as well as encouraging sustainable marketing practices and simplifying regulations. The recommendation is that the Government immediately simplify regulations, expand partnerships and collaboration, and promote innovation in tourism SMEs. By implementing these recommendations, policymakers can create an environment that supports the development of tourism SMEs, allowing the tourism sector to increase GRDP.
Under the background of green economic transformation, the sustainable utilization of ecological resources has become a trend, and bamboo all-for-one tourism has become a new development direction for bamboo-resource-rich areas. Based on the all-for-one tourism model and characteristics of bamboo resources, this paper puts forward a bamboo all-for-one tourism model, which shows the relationship between resources, products, and markets, and elaborates on the joint effect mechanism of industrial environment, governance environment, and external environment. Taking Yibin City, Sichuan Province as an example, this paper also analyzes existing problems of developing bamboo all-for-one tourism and then proposes suggestions to provide effective analytical ideas and reference, such as establishing a market-oriented all-product development model, introducing the sustainable development concept of bamboo management, establishing the management concept of sharing by all people, and driving all industries developing in a coordinated way.
