This study presents a comprehensive two-dimensional numerical analysis of natural laminar convection within a square cavity containing two circular heat sources, which simulate electric cables generating heat due to Joule heating. This scenario is particularly relevant in aeronautics, where excessive heating of electrical installations can lead to significant material and human safety risks. The primary objective of this research is to identify the optimal spacing between the two heat sources to mitigate the risk of overheating and ensure the safe operation of the electrical installation. To achieve this, various configurations were analyzed by adjusting the distance between the heat sources while also varying the Rayleigh number across a range from 103 to 106. The governing equations for the fluid flow and heat transfer were solved using a FORTRAN-based numerical code employing the finite volume method. The results indicate that the heat transfer characteristics within the cavity are significantly influenced by both the distance between the heat sources and the Rayleigh number. The analysis revealed that the average Nusselt number (Nuavg) peaked at a value of 14.69 when the distance between the heat sources was set at 0.7 units and the Rayleigh number was at 106. This finding suggests that maintaining this specific spacing between the electrical cables can optimize heat dissipation and enhance the safety of the installation. In conclusion, the study recommends adopting a spacing of 0.7 units between the electrical cables to ensure optimal thermal performance and minimize the risk of overheating, thereby safeguarding both the materials and personnel involved in aeronautical operations.
In this study, the effect of porogenic solvents on pore size distribution of the polycaprolactone (PCL) thin films was investigated. Five thin PCL films were prepared using the solvent-casting method. Chloroform, Methylene Chloride (MC) and three different compositions of MC/ Dimethylformamide (DMF) (80/20, 50/50 and 20/80) were used as solvents. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) investigations were employed to study morphology and consequently the pore size distribution of the prepared films. The PCL films made by chloroform and MC as a solvent were completely non-porous. Whereas the other films (made by a combination of MC and DMF) showed both uni-modal and bi-modal pore size distributions.
Purpose: This study focuses on the effects of electronic-Human Resource Management (e-HRM) on organizational consequences. In this analysis, the effects of different configurations are assessed within the same socio-economic context. Design/Methodology: This study adopts a cross-sectional survey of e-HRM actors, such as human resource managers, IT professionals, and line managers. The data analysis was conducted using linear regression. A sample of 300 respondents was selected based on Gill et al.’s framework for obtaining a representative sample. Findings: ‘Integrated e-HRM configurations’ employed in multinational corporations (MNCs) generate positive and improved operational, relational, and transformational consequences or outcomes. In small-to-medium-sized organizations, the operational-user configuration exhibits positive but lower operational, relational, and transformational consequences. However, the socio-economic variables used to categorize e-HRM configurations do not apply in a developing economy context. Practical implications: The application of information technology in HRM is not the sole predictor of organizational consequences. The sophistication of the adopted e-HRM system deserves some consideration too. When managers adopt sophisticated e-HRM systems, they are likely to achieve positive and improved outcomes. More predictor variables need to be uncovered for an elaborate categorization of effective e-HRM configurations. Originality/value: The contextual factors that define effective e-HRM configurations are not consistent across different socio-economic contexts. Company-based categorization of effective configurations is advisable. This study establishes the limitations of current categorization variables in explaining effective e-HRM systems.
This paper explores the ritual practices associated with Beiyuan Tribute Tea production in Jianzhou, Fujian, China. Beiyuan Tribute Tea, a historically significant tea, originated in the Tang Dynasty, flourished during the Song Dynasty, and experienced a decline in the Ming Dynasty, reproduced in contemporary times. The tea’s production involved intricate rituals that not only enhanced its quality but also embedded it deeply into the socio-cultural and religious fabric of the time. These rituals, encompassing aspects of religious reverence, craftsmanship, and social etiquette, played a crucial role in the tea’s esteemed status as a tribute to Chinese emperors in history. The study utilized ethnographic methods, including participant observation, in-depth interviews with 17 people, and document analysis, to capture the rich, contextual details of the tea production process. The study delves into the historical context, production techniques, and symbolic meanings of the rituals, highlighting their impact on the broader cultural heritage of Chinese tea. The recent revival efforts of these traditions underscore their enduring significance and offer insights into the cultural continuity and adaptation in contemporary tea practices.
The economic complexity approach presents a shift from quantitative to qualitative measures of economic performance, while economic complexity refers to the accumulation of know-how. Economic complexity is considered a predictor of economic growth and research evidences a positive relationship between economic complexity and economic growth. In the EU countries, economic convergence is observed. Hence the question of economic complexity convergence arises, too. The paper aims to analyze the convergence of 27 EU countries considering their economic complexity from 1999 to 2021 computing the beta convergence. Using the Barro-type regressions, the econometric estimations focus on four indices of economic complexity—the economic complexity index published by Harvard’s Growth Lab, and economic complexity indices on research, trade, and technology published by the Observatory of Economic Complexity. The absolute beta convergence is observed in the EU except for the economic complexity index referring to trade. When including the dummy referring to the location of EU countries in the West or East of the EU considering their wealth, the conditional beta convergence is observed except for the trade-economic complexity index, again. When altering the condition of location by the GDP per capita and other controls, the conditional beta convergence of economic complexity in the EU is observed when estimating both fixed-effect models and dynamic panel data models based on the system generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator.
