This study aims to investigate the alignment of emerging skills and competencies with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programs in the accounting and auditing professions. The research focuses on enhancing the intellectual capital within these sectors, as dictated by the demands of the modern knowledge economy. Employing the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) framework of emerging skills for professional services, a comprehensive content analysis is conducted. This involves reviewing 1009 learning outcomes across 248 CPD courses offered by the global professional accounting body. The analysis reveals that while the existing courses cover all WEF-identified skills, there is an unaddressed requirement for a specialized focus on specific competencies. The study also notes gaps in clearly articulated learning outcomes, highlighting the need for more explicit statements to facilitate effective skills development and knowledge transfer. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on intellectual capital management strategies, providing actionable recommendations for professional organizations. It fills a critical gap in understanding how CPD offerings can be optimized to better prepare accounting and auditing professionals for the evolving knowledge economy.
The goal of this research is to determine whether hospital financial performance is impacted by particular management accounting techniques, such as departmental revenue budgeting, specific costing, and departmental costing. We analyzed several sets of performance indicators for 146 hospitals whose management accounting adoption status is available. An outlier test was used to determine which data were outliers at the 0.1% significance level, and the results were then eliminated in order to see if any extremely outlier values (hospitals) were present for each indicator. To determine whether there were any noteworthy variations in the average values of the several performance measures, we employed a t-test (two-tailed probability). The results suggest that departmental revenue budgeting and departmental and specific costing improve hospital financial performance.
This study further explores women’s role in top management in Indonesia, where men still dominate that position. This study underlines the role of women’s boards of commissioners in producing better financial performance in the specific sectors, manufacturing and service sectors, where the power of women to lead these sectors is more optimal. The sample is selected from the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2009–2018. The final sample is 780 observations. This study applies panel data, which is more robust when controlling heterogeneity. Data panel regression is applied to analyze data. This study finds that gender diversity harms market-based performance, while from accounting-based measures, gender diversity has a significant positive effect. This study is applied explicitly in the manufacturing and services industrial sectors; therefore, carefully generalizing the results is necessary. Research in other specific sectors is very open to obtaining specific results in various industries, including developing countries other than Indonesia. The market has not trusted the role of women in top management; there is still a kind of ‘hidden distrust’ about the capabilities of women in running the top leadership captain. The market needs more substantial evidence to believe in women’s performance on the board of directors. Therefore, it is necessary to provide wider opportunities for women to sit on the board of commissioners, as much as men have.
This study aimed to measure the impact of implementing mechanisms of accounting data governance, represented by International Accounting Standards, internal auditing, external auditing, audit committees, disclosure and transparency, and performance evaluation, on the quality of financial reporting data for the commercial banks listed on the Amman Stock Exchange, totaling (15) banks. To achieve the objectives of this study, a descriptive-analytical approach was adopted by developing a questionnaire to collect the primary data measuring the study variables. The questionnaire was distributed to employees in the financial and control departments of these banks, with a total of (375) respondents from the total study population of (733) individuals. Appropriate statistical methods were used to analyze the data, test hypotheses, and the results of this study revealed a strong positive impact of five variables of accounting data governance mechanisms on achieving the quality of financial reporting data. These variables are ranked from highest to lowest in terms of the strength of impact and correlation with the quality of financial reports: disclosure and transparency, external auditing, International Accounting Standards, internal auditing, and audit committees. However, there was no impact of the performance evaluation governance variable on achieving the quality of financial reporting data. These results call on the management of commercial banks in the study to commit to the objective implementation of the requirements of accounting data governance mechanisms as stipulated by international professional assemblies.
In the agricultural sector of Huila, particularly among SMEs in coffee, cocoa, fish, and rice subsectors, the transition to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is paramount yet challenging. This research aims to offer management guidelines to support Huila’s agricultural SMEs in their IFRS transition, underpinning the region’s aspirations for financial standardization and economic advancement. Utilizing a mixed-methods managerial approach, data was gathered from 13 representative companies using validated questionnaires, interviews, and analyzed with SPSS and ATLAS.ti. Results indicate that while there is evident progress in IFRS adoption, 12 out of 13 firms adopted IFRS, with rice leading in terms of adoption duration. While 77% found IFRS useful for financial statements, half reported insufficient staff training. The transition highlighted challenges, including asset recognition and valuation, and emphasized enhancing institutional support and IFRS training. Interviews revealed managerial commitment and expertise as significant factors. Recommendations for successful implementation include leadership involvement, continuous professional development, anticipating costs, clear accounting policies, and meticulous record-keeping. The study concludes that adopting IFRS enhances financial reporting quality, urging entities to converge their reporting practices without hesitation for improved comparability, relevance, and reliability in their financial disclosures.
