This study investigates the impact of extreme rainfall events on soil erosion in the downstream Parnaíba River Basin, located in the Brazilian Cerrado. The analysis focused on rainfall erosivity (R factor) and soil erodibility (K factor) as key indicators. The average erosivity in the region was 9051 MJ mm h−1ha−1year−1, with a variation between 7943 and 10,081 MJ mm h−1ha−1year−1, suggesting a high erosive potential, mainly in the rainiest months, from December to April. The soils of the studied area, mainly Ultisols and Chernosols, present high to very high erodibility, with K factor values ranging from 0.025 to 0.050 t h MJ−1 mm−1. Furthermore, fieldwork revealed areas, near highways, with apparently fragile soils, as well as rills and gullies, identified through photographs taken during fieldwork. These locations, due to the combination of high erosivity and susceptible soils, were considered prone to the occurrence of erosion processes, representing an additional risk to local infrastructure. The spatialization of R and K factors, along with field observations, showed that much of the area is at high risk of erosion and landslides, particularly in regions with greater topographic variability and proximity to water bodies. These results provide a basis for the development of mitigation strategies, being important for the effective prevention of landslides.
The present study aimed to delineate subsurface features and identify prospective metallic mineral deposits in the Adıyaman-Besni area, situated within the Southeastern Anatolian Thrust Belt of Turkey. This region, characterized by ophiolitic mélanges and volcanic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits in its geological framework, possesses significant mineralization potential, encompassing copper, lead, and various other sulfide minerals. Utilizing the combined methodologies of Induced Polarization (IP) and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), a comprehensive electrical mapping of the subsurface structures was conducted, revealing that mineralized zones had low resistivity and high chargeability. The findings indicate that the combined use of IP and ERT techniques yields excellent precision in accurately delineating the features of sulfide mineralization and the peripheries of mineral deposits. This study offers fundamental data for the economic assessment of prospective mineral deposits in the Adıyaman-Besni region and underscores the benefits of IP and ERT techniques in subsurface mapping and mineralization delineation investigations. The mineralized zone has low resistivity (< 50 ohm-m) and strong chargeability (> 30 ms), according to geophysical tests. It also offers a methodological framework for subsequent mineral exploration research in analogous geological formations.
Inland Container Depots (ICDs) are inland multi-modal terminals where goods in intermodal loading units can be transferred directly to seaports. The contribution of ICDs to regions’ economic and social growth is undeniable. To achieve the sustainable development of ICDs, evaluating and improving their service quality is critical. This study aims to investigate the factors contributing to the service quality of ICD in a developing country. The data utilized covers some ICDs in the Red River Delta, Vietnam. Regarding analytic methods, descriptive statistics first were run to show the level of aspects of service quality of ICDs. Subsequently, attitudinal statements were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis before linear regression was applied to recognize the factors influencing the service quality of ICDs. Generally, the service quality of ICDs was evaluated at an acceptable level but far from the high one. The results suggested that the four influential service quality factors included location and accessibility, facilities, process and management, and labor. Based on the findings of contributing factors, managerial implications were proposed.
The rapid progress of information technology has made public online participation in policy formulation an inevitable product of modern government reshaping and reconstruction. However, compared with developed countries, citizens’ online participation in policy formulation in China started relatively late. Thus, in order to explore an effective and efficient method for Chinese citizens’ participation in policy formulation, this research made a brief review of the experiences from the typical developed country of United States of America at first, followed by some other developed countries such as Singapore, South Korea, and Japan in Asia with similar situations. Still, combined with the current situation of the China itself into consideration, this research further proposes targeted recommendations. It is expected that the findings in this research could provide some references for the Chinese government to form more effective and efficient theoretical frameworks targeted at the future development trends of the Chinese society and accordingly, to improve the construction of democracy in China.
Surrogacy has opened new doors for many people who need children but are infertile or unable to have children. Through modern scientific technology, couples or mothers can find women to ask them to be surrogates using their eggs or sperm. The nature of surrogacy is reproductive support, but the complexity of the surrogacy procedure causes a lot of controversy not only in the field of criminal law but also regarding its implementation in practice. The article uses qualitative analysis to study current commercial surrogacy formulas. The main goal of this study is to clarify the legal aspects of commercial surrogacy in the world and in Vietnam. The article also concludes that Vietnam and other countries need to agree or develop common principles to avoid cross-border surrogacy as well as establish legal tools to prevent surrogacy for sexual purposes trade to protect human rights and prevent child trafficking.
