Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Assisted Technologies
In accordance with the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), this journal permits the limited use of artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation, provided that their use is transparent, appropriately disclosed, and does not replace the intellectual contributions of the authors.
AI-assisted technologies may include large language models (LLMs), chatbots, and AI-based image or content generation tools such as ChatGPT.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of all submitted material, including any content generated with the assistance of AI tools.
Acceptable Use of AI-Assisted Technologies
AI-assisted technologies may be used to support certain aspects of manuscript preparation, including:
· improving grammar, spelling, and readability of the manuscript;
· assisting with formatting or manuscript organization;
· supporting computational or analytical processes in data analysis;
· generating schematic figures or graphical elements when scientifically appropriate.
AI tools should be used only as supportive tools and must not replace the authors’ scientific reasoning, interpretation of results, or scholarly judgment.
Disclosure Requirements
Authors must disclose any use of AI-assisted technologies at the time of manuscript submission.
When AI tools are used, authors should clearly indicate:
· the name of the AI tool used;
· the purpose for which it was used;
· the sections of the manuscript affected.Disclosure should be included in the appropriate section of the manuscript, such as the Cover Letter, Acknowledgments, or Methods section, depending on how the AI tool was used.
Authorship and Responsibility
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
Authorship requires accountability for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the work. Because AI systems cannot assume these responsibilities, only human contributors may qualify for authorship.
Authors must carefully review and edit any AI-generated content to ensure that it is accurate, complete, and free from bias or plagiarism. All authors remain fully responsible for the final content of the manuscript.
Research Integrity
The use of AI-assisted technologies must not compromise research integrity or ethical standards. AI tools must not be used to fabricate data, generate false references, manipulate images, or misrepresent research findings.
Manuscripts found to involve undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI-assisted technologies may be rejected or subject to editorial action in accordance with the journal’s ethical policies.
