Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a critical role in achieving environmental sustainability, particularly in developing economies where regulatory enforcement and resource constraints remain significant challenges. Drawing on Institutional Theory, this study examines how green leadership influences environmental performance in Ghanaian SMEs, with digital innovation as a mediating variable and environmental culture as a moderating variable. Institutional Theory provides the conceptual foundation for explaining how normative pressures embedded in leadership values and organizational culture, alongside mimetic pressures associated with digital innovation adoption, shape firms’ environmental outcomes. Using survey data collected from SMEs in Ghana and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the results revealed that green leadership has a significant positive effect on both digital innovation and environmental performance. Digital innovation also significantly enhances environmental performance and partially mediates the relationship between green leadership and environmental performance. Notably, the findings demonstrated that environmental culture significantly moderates the relationship between digital innovation and environmental performance, with the effect stronger in organizations with a well-developed environmental culture. This indicates that internalized environmental values amplify the effectiveness of digital innovation initiatives. The study contributes to the sustainability and organizational literature by extending Institutional Theory to the SME context in a developing economy and by clarifying the conditional role of environmental culture in translating digital innovation into superior environmental performance. Practically, the findings suggest that SME leaders and policymakers should promote environmentally oriented leadership, invest in digital innovation, and cultivate strong environmental cultures to enhance sustainability outcomes.
With the deep integration of artificial intelligence technology in education, the development of AI integration capabilities among pre-service teachers—as the core of future educational human resources—has become crucial for enhancing educational quality and driving digital transformation in education. Based on the AI-TPACK (Artificial Intelligence-Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) theoretical framework, this study employs questionnaire surveys and structural equation modeling to explore the structural characteristics, influencing factors, and formation mechanisms of AI-TPACK competencies among pre-service teachers in Chinese universities. Findings indicate that while pre-service teachers demonstrate moderately high overall AI-TPACK levels, their technical knowledge (AI-TK) and technological integration competencies (e.g., AI-TPK, AI-TCK) remain relatively weak. School technical support, technological attitudes, and technological competence significantly influence their AI-TPACK capabilities, with institutional level and teaching experience serving as important external moderating factors. Building on these findings, this paper proposes a systematic framework for developing pre-service teachers' AI integration capabilities from a human resource development perspective. This framework encompasses four dimensions: curriculum optimization, practice enhancement, resource support, and policy guidance. It aims to provide theoretical foundations and practical pathways for pre-service teacher training and teacher human resource development in higher education institutions.
Objective: This study synthesizes current evidence on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and, where relevant, Open Science (OS) practices in enhancing Human Resource Management (HRM) performance. It focuses on recruitment processes, ethical considerations, and employee participation. Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted in Scopus covering the period 2019–2024, following PRISMA guidelines. The initial search yielded 1486 records. After de-duplication and screening using Rayyan, 66 studies (≈ 4.4%) met the inclusion criteria, which targeted peer-reviewed works addressing AI-supported HR decision-making. A combined content and bibliometric analysis was performed in R (Bibliometrix) to identify thematic patterns and conceptual structures. Results: Analysis revealed four thematic clusters: 1) Implementation and employee participation emphasizing human-in-the-loop approaches and effective change management; 2) ethical challenges including algorithmic bias, transparency gaps, and data privacy risks; 3) data-driven decision-making delivering higher accuracy, fewer errors, and personalized recruitment and performance assessment; 4) operational efficiency enabling faster workflows and reduced administrative workloads. AI tools consistently improved selection quality, while OS practices promoted transparency and knowledge sharing. Implications: The successful adoption of AI in HRM requires employee engagement, strong ethical safeguards, and transparent data governance. Future research should address the long-term cultural, organizational, and well-being impacts of AI integration, as well as its sustainability.
In response to the increasing youth unemployment rate and the demand for future-oriented career development, university student entrepreneurship has emerged as a critical domain in both economic policy and education. This study conducts a comprehensive literature review to examine the interrelationships between entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurial competency, and entrepreneurial intention among university students, with an emphasis on the Human Resource Development (HRD) perspective. The review reveals that entrepreneurial mindset significantly influences students’ intention to start a business, while entrepreneurship education contributes both directly and indirectly through the development of entrepreneurial competencies. Entrepreneurial competencies serve as a practical foundation for translating intention into action and are integral to HRD’s goal of competency-based talent development. The study further highlights that entrepreneurship education aligned with HRD principles—such as experiential learning, self-directed development, and learning organization frameworks—can foster employability and self-employment capacity. This integrative analysis suggests that university entrepreneurship programs should not be seen merely as policy instruments, but rather as strategic HRD initiatives for developing future-ready, opportunity-creating human capital. Implications for educational design, policy development, and future empirical research are discussed.
The rapid digitalisation of business processes and the widespread adoption of remote work since the COVID‑19 pandemic have forced private enterprises to re‑examine the role of human resource management (HRM). Drawing on the resource‑based view, this study investigates how digital HR strategies—covering recruitment & selection, training & development, performance management and digital employee services—affect employee engagement and firm performance in a context where a significant portion of the workforce operates remotely. Using survey data from 150 employees and managers in 50 privately owned firms in Chongqing, China, supplemented by semi‑structured interviews with HR leaders, we develop a digital HR adoption index and test its impact on remote work effectiveness and organisational performance. The results show that higher levels of digital HR adoption positively influence employee engagement, reduce perceptions of relative deprivation and cyberloafing, and enhance remote work effectiveness. Regression analysis further indicates that remote work effectiveness mediates the relationship between digital HR adoption and organisational performance. Qualitative insights highlight the importance of leadership support, training and the integration of platforms such as WeChat Work, DingTalk and Tencent Meeting for managing remote teams. Our findings offer evidence‑based recommendations for private enterprises in emerging economies to align digital HR strategies with remote working arrangements, support employee well‑being and sustain performance.
This study investigates the integration of Yao ethnic cultural history into sustainable jewelry design and its implications for human resource planning, organizational management, and employee engagement techniques within creative sectors. The research emphasizes new approaches to improving employee well-being, work happiness, and organizational commitment by integrating cultural authenticity with circular economy concepts. The study specifically aims to (1) use Yao cultural elements to strengthen the organization’s identity and boost employee pride, (2) evaluate how consumers respond to circular economy ideas and how these ideas impact employee motivation and performance, and (3) explore how sustainability efforts based on culture affect consumer behavior and the morale of the workforce. We used a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews with fifteen experts in design, sustainability, and cultural heritage with a quantitative survey of 240 participants. Research indicates that using Yao motifs—such as traditional needlework and nature-inspired designs—enhances market attractiveness and promotes more employee alignment with business ideals, hence improving satisfaction and performance. The increasing customer acceptance of recycled and upcycled items enhances employees’ sense of purpose and engagement. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating sustainable HR practices, including culturally oriented training and open ethical principles, to enhance labor relations and foster equity. Utilizing cultural heritage in design innovation serves as a strategic instrument to enhance human capital and promote long-term organizational sustainability.
