Land use as for human-circumstance interaction is as we all know changed the global land surface sharply and continuously. Farmland abandonment is the phenomenon of going extreme of marginal of land use, which exert positive and negative impacts on our living circumstances. In order to map the extent of farmland abandonment of Zhejiang Province, we try to use the geo-big data analysis platform to perform the massive data preprocessing and map the extent of farmland abandonment of the study area based on multi-source land use and land cover data. Then we execute landscape pattern analysis using landscape pattern analysis software and spatial auto-correlation (Moran's I) analysis based on ArcGIS and Fragstats software. We found that the area of farmland is about 16.32% on account of all land use types, which is 1.89104 km2. While the whole area of FA is 1.72 × 108 m2, and the farmland abandonment ratio is 1.65%. AF's area is about 1.95 × 109 m2, and the continuous cultivation ratio is 18.69%. The landscape fragmentation, landscape aggregation and landscape diversity of FA, AF and FL are different. At the same time, the spatial auto-correlation of FA and AF are dominant high congregation and low discrete. At last, we compared our calculated results with the existed research results which demonstrate our research does scientific convincible. We also make futural prospects prediction and show the research deficiency as well as bring out some policy implications based on our research, which means build proper land use management regulation and decrease the farmland abandonment on account of the premise of suitable land use policies.
The project of returning farmland to forest is a new project of increasing farmers' income, ecological efficiency and
benefiting the country. The key to the success of returning farmland to forest project is to strictly control the key technologies such as regional planning, forest species selection, tree species selection, good seedling, structural configuration, meticulous soil preparation, serious planting, tending and management. According to the actual
situation of Yuanling County, suitable for the tree, choose the market prospects, fast-growing tree species afforestation,
reasonable adjustment of forest structure, ecological benefits and economic benefits simultaneously, take high-
quality high-yield and efficient forestry development. Returning farmland to forest project has played huge ecological benefits, economic and social benefits.
Soil and groundwater remediation Act was enacted in year 2000. More than ten years has already passed, Monitoring project has been completed, pollution status has been defined, contaminated sites depollution have been launched,a great progress has been made. This paper majorly to depict the extensive farmland soil qauality monittoring which is unpredent in Taiwan and believe has never been done worldwide.
This project was initiated from February 8th, 2002 to August 8th, 2002. The project tasks including digitalization of cadastre, farmland listing, basic information collecting, field investigation, sampling & analysis planning, field sampling, soil sample analysis, data evaluation, suggestion of contaminated farmland control, and analysis of potential pollution sources and transfer routes.
2,251 soil samples, had been sampled from Chang-Hwa County, Yun-Lin County, Nan-Tao County, and Chia-Yi City, and been analyzed in this project. 44% of these samples concentration exceed the soil pollution control standard (Table 1), including 492 farmlands (125.65 ha registered) with total contaminated farming area of 108.38 ha in Chang-Hwa, and 6 farmlands (0.39 ha registered) with total contaminated farming area of 0.39 ha in Nan-Tao County. However, the concentration of samples from Ynu-Lin County and Chia-Yi City do not exceed the soil pollution control standard.
To coordinate with the investigation results of the relative project regarding to water and sediment quality of irrigation channels in Chang-Hwa area, the pollution sources are preliminary concluded to be the irrigation channels surrounding the farmlands in Chang-Hwa area. As to the Nan-Tao County, the abandoned brick furnace plants neighboring the farmland are suspected to be the pollution sources.
The results show that the soil of the investigation area in Chang-Hwa County is the most polluted. Base on the Geostatistics study and the distribution of the irrigation channels; the area neighboring the investigated farmland in this project is suspected being polluted. For the farmlands exceeding soil control standard, Geostatistics method is suggested to coordinate with the information of the irrigation system to clarify the contaminated area so as to be the basis of land control and remediation work. As to the farmlands, not being investigated in this project but with high pollution potential according to the Geostatistics study, detail investigations are suggested. Regarding to soil pollution remediation, it is suggested to coordinate with the effluent control and irrigation channel remediation to achieve an all-out success.
This study examines the economic feasibility of the environment-friendly farmland use policy to improve water quality. Conventional highland farming, polluting the Han River basin in South Korea, can be converted into environment-friendly farming through land acquisition or application of pesticide-free or organic farming practices. We estimate the welfare measures of improvement in water quality and the costs of policy implementation for economic analysis. To estimate the economic benefit of improvement in water quality experienced by the residents residing in mid-and-downstream areas of the Han River, the choice experiment was employed with a pivot-style experimental design approach. In the empirical analysis, we converted the household perception for water quality grades into scientific water quality measures using Water Quality Standard to estimate the value of changes in water quality. To analyze the costs required to convert conventional highland farmlands into environment-friendly farmlands, we estimated the relevant cost of land acquisition and the subsidy necessary for farm income loss for organic agricultural practice. We find that the agri-environmental policy is economically viable, which suggests that converting conventional highland farming into environment-friendly farming would make the improvement in water quality visible.
