We have studied the effect of the series resistance on the heating of the cathode, which is based on carbon nanotubes and serves to realize the field emission of electrons into the vacuum. The experiment was performed with the single multi-walled carbon nanotube (MCNT) that was separated from the array grown by CVD method with thin-film Ni-Ti catalyst (nickel 4 nm/Ti 10 nm). The heating of the cathode leads to the appearance of a current of the thermionic emission. The experimental voltage current characteristic exhibited the negative resistance region caused by thermal field emission. This current increases strongly with increasing voltage and contributes to the degradation of the cold emitter. The calculation of the temperature of the end of the cathode is made taking into account the effect of the phenomenon that warms up and cools the cathode. We have developed a method for processing of the emission volt-ampere characteristics of a cathode, which relies on a numerical calculation of the field emission current and the comparison of these calculations with experiments. The model of the volt-ampere characteristic takes into account the CNT’s geometry, properties, its contact with the catalyst, heating and simultaneous implementation of the thermionic and field emission. The calculation made it possible to determine a number of important parameters, including the voltage and current of the beginning of thermionic emission, the temperature distribution along the cathode and the resistance of the nanotube. The phenomenon of thermionic emission from CNTs was investigated experimentally and theoretically. The conditions of this type emission occurrence were defined. The results of the study could form the basis of theory of CNT emitter’s degradation.
The regulation of compressor extraction and energy storage can improve the performance of gas turbine energy system. In order to make the gas turbine system match the external load more flexibly and efficiently, a gas turbine cogeneration system with solar energy coupling compressor outlet extraction and energy storage is proposed. By establishing the variable condition mathematical model of air turbine, waste heat boiler and solar collector, we use Thermoflex software to establish the variable condition model of gas turbine compressor outlet extraction, and analyze the variable condition of the coupling system to study the changes of thermal parameters of the system in the energy storage, energy release and operation cycle. Taking the hourly load of a hotel in South China as an example, this paper analyzes the case of the cogeneration system of solar energy coupling compressor outlet extraction and energy storage, and compares it with the benchmark cogeneration system. The results show that taking a typical day as a cycle, the primary energy utilization rate of the system designed in this paper is 3.2% higher than that of the traditional cogeneration system, and the efficiency is 2.4% higher.
The scarcity of the insulators that are required for refrigeration has made it necessary to use locally available materials that can achieve the desired refrigeration. This work presents the performance evaluation of a refrigerator utilizing a locally available material, which is wood particles that have been converted to particle board, as one of its insulators. A vapor compression refrigeration system was designed and fabricated to chill and preserve agricultural products, which are eggs, yogurt, and tomatoes. The various temperatures at which the agricultural products became chilled were compared with their theoretical preservation temperatures obtainable in literature, thereby evaluating the performance of the refrigerator. The temperature of 11 ℃, which was recorded for the egg in the present experiment, is lower than the theoretical preservation temperatures of 18 ℃ to 21 ℃ for an egg. The temperature of 7 ℃, which was recorded for the yogurt, is approximately equal to its theoretical preservation temperature of 5 ℃. The temperature of 8 ℃, which was recorded for the tomato, is lower than the theoretical preservation temperatures of 7 ℃ to 10 ℃ of tomato. This work has revealed that wood particles have the potential to achieve refrigeration, as well as chill and preserve agricultural products.
