Biomass production (BIO) and its anomalies were modeled using MODIS satellite images and gridded weather data to test an environmental monitoring system in the biomes Atlantic Forest (AF) and Caatinga (CT) within SEALBA, an agricultural growing region bordered by the states of Sergipe (SE), Alagoas (AL), and Bahia (BA), Northeast Brazil. Spatial and temporal variations on BIO between these biomes were strongly identified, with the annual long-term averages (2007–2023) for AF and CT of 78 ± 22 and 58 ± 17 kg ha−1 d−1, respectively. BIO anomalies were detected through its standardized indexes—STD (BIOSTD), comparing the results for the years from 2020 to 2023 with the long-term rates from 2007 to each of these years. The highest negative BIOSTD values were in 2023, but concentrated in CT, indicating periods with the lowest vegetation growth, regarding the long-term conditions from 2007 to 2023. The largest positive BIOSTD values were for the AF biome in 2022, evidencing the highest vegetative vigor in comparison with the long-term period 2007–2022. The proposed BIO monitoring system is important for environmental policies as they picture suitable periods and places for agricultural and forestry explorations, allowing sustainable managements under climate and land-use changes conditions, with possibilities for replication of the methods in other environmental conditions.
Use of technologies and online presence is now almost inevitable in language learning. The practice of virtual exchanges (VEs) has been receiving a lot of attention among educators at all levels over the past years. This research paper sheds light on 13 VEs carried out in pre-service teacher education in the last six years and proposes its own VE design based on recommendations from the literature with the future perspective of designing a specific VE for the research. The aim of the systematic review was at first to determine the exchange and interaction set-ups and the potential gains in the terms of pre-service teachers’ skills development. Afterwards, we identified areas for improvement and proposed our design of a VE between pre-service teachers of English in Slovakia and Turkey. Some of the expected contributions of the proposed VE design are development of a linguistic and intercultural communicative competence, digital literacy, and other competences relevant for development of VEs.
Since entering the new era, in the face of the changing international situation, China is faced with both development opportunities and challenges. How to cultivate English talents to meet the needs of national development and national rejuvenation in the new era has become an urgent problem to be solved in English education in China. The application of applied linguistics to English teaching in colleges and universities plays a positive role in promoting the innovation of English teaching concept and teaching mode in colleges and universities and the improvement of teaching efficiency and quality. This requires college English teachers to master the relevant concepts and connotations of applied linguistics, and clarify the content scope of applied linguistics and the value of practical application. This paper will focus on the analysis of the current situation of English teaching in colleges and universities, and on the basis of the concept and scope of applied linguistics, put forward some practical application strategies, hoping to provide a reference for the innovation of teaching mode and teaching methods of English curriculum in colleges and universities.
With the advent of the era of globalized economy, more attention should be paid to the training mode of comprehensive English literacy in colleges and universities in teaching. Therefore, how to cultivate and improve students' higher-level teaching methods in the context of ecolinguistics, so as to improve the quality of English teaching, is the current focus of English teaching in colleges and universities. By summarizing the basic concepts of ecolinguistics, this paper studies effective measures to improve the quality of linguistics teaching in colleges and universities, and comprehensively improves the quality and efficiency of English language teaching in colleges and universities under the background of ecolinguistics.
This study is of great significance for understanding the formation and understanding mechanism of new words in English mass media, and also provides a reference for the application of psycholinguistics in vocabulary research.
