Reading comprehension ability, as a key skill that needs to be developed in English teaching, has attracted high attention from teachers and students in universities. This is not only due to its relatively large proportion in English exams, but also due to the entering of the information age, people need to obtain information from the text through extensive reading and gain a profound understanding of the content of the article. Therefore, in the process of guiding students to learn English knowledge, teachers must take cultivating students' reading comprehension ability as the central link of teaching activities. Through exploring and researching it in teaching, students can improve their reading comprehension level and enable them to have a deeper understanding of the profound connotations to be expressed in future English texts.

With the development of globalization, the importance of multiculturalism in university English education is becoming more and more prominent. This paper discusses the problems related to the teaching innovation of university English education from the perspective of multiculturalism. Firstly, it introduces the concept and significance of multicultural education and emphasizes its importance to university English education. Secondly, it analyzes the problems existing in the current university English teaching, such as cultural prejudice and language barrier. Then, innovative strategies for multicultural teaching are proposed, including teacher training, textbook design, teaching activities and so on. Finally, the evaluation and future development of multicultural education are prospected.

In the process of constructing and building the industry English curriculum system in the new era, higher education institutions should clarify the corresponding curriculum teaching focus and direction, analyze, optimize, and improve the defects and deficiencies in the English curriculum teaching system. They should also combine refined and beneficial teaching ideas and strategies, innovate existing teaching methods, and integrate more ideological and political elements into curriculum teaching, to achieve more efficient teaching guidance for students. This article briefly analyzes and explores the strategies for constructing the English course system for waterway transportation and maritime management majors at present.

Language is the carrier of culture. Under the function of language, international culture is constantly spread and exchanged. As an important part of basic education, language education, especially college English education, significantly contains multiple international cultures. From the perspective of multiculturalism, the development status of college English teaching reflects the importance of multicultural infiltration. The following explores college English teaching strategies from the perspective of multiculturalism from three aspects: establishing “double qualified” teachers, paying attention to mother tongue and cultural differences, establishing diversified teaching concepts and establishing teaching culture evaluation system.
