As an encyclopedia of Chinese feudal society, A Dream of Red Mansions has always been an academic hot topic. The description of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) plays a vital role in promoting plot development and carrying forward TCM culture. Based on the three principles of translating TCM prescription names, this paper analyses 16 TCM prescription names in the first 80 chapters of the novel in order to find the translation methods of prescription names. It is found that TCM prescription names containing main medicine mainly adopt literal translation because of its brevity; due to the length, TCM prescription names containing healing effects mainly use free translation to conform to the principles of information and conciseness; TCM prescription names containing numbers or colors employ literal translation to in accordance with the principle of back-translation; TCM prescription names containing cultural information usually use free translation and transliteration with a view to meet the principles of information and conciseness.

Public signs are special linguistic symbols with the functions of directing, prompting, and warning the public. However, as far as the current situation of Shandong’s scenic spots is concerned, there are many errors in the translation of their public signs. This thesis takes some scenic spots in Shandong as the research object, analyzes the problems in the translation of public signs in Shandong scenic spots from some perspectives on the skopos theory, and then proposes useful translation methods, aiming to promote the translation quality of public signs.

Metaphors and financial activities are prevalent in all aspects of human life. Financial English, as an integration of finance and linguistics, has a large number of metaphorical expressions in its discourse system. This paper selected the second edition of Reuters Financial Glossary published by China Financial Publishing House as the research object, collated all the financial English metaphors included in it, and, according to the characteristics of the source domain, divided them into six categories: animal-related, plant-related, object-related, action-related, color-related and weather-related, etc. After that, the paper searched and analyzed the English materials of authoritative journals such as Financial Times and The Economist since 2024, and explored the formation causes and the translation methods of financial English metaphors under the guidance of the metaphor theory. It is hoped that this study will help further deepen the research of financial English metaphors and provide a reference for the translation of financial English texts.

In recent years, China has been developing science and technology and gradually stepping into the ranks of scientific and technological powers. While developing its own science and technology, China is also learning from the advanced scientific and technological achievements of the West, in which scientific and technological translation plays a very important role. Under the guidance of the theory of communicative translation proposed by Peter Newmark, the article analyses the characteristics of scientific and technological texts and discusses the translation methods and techniques of professional vocabulary, special sentence patterns and long and difficult sentences in scientific and technological texts, combining with the analysis of examples in the course of ‘scientific and technological translation’.

As the core vocabulary of specialized fields, accurate translation of petroleum science and technology terms is crucial for promoting the communication of petroleum knowledge. Based on the perspective of terminology, the paper analyzes the characteristics of the term, and puts forward the corresponding translation methods. It is hoped that the research in the paper can provide positive reference for the translation of petroleum science and technology term.
